Since Reading Arizona’s launch we have tried a number of marketing tools to spread the word, including conference presentations, press releases, internal marketing, and social media. However, the best marketing tool we have is Arizona librarians. Their daily interactions with patrons provide a great opportunity to recommend Reading Arizona and other library resources. It is important that librarians are familiar with the product and how it works so they feel comfortable recommending it.
This spring we’ve sent one staff member to libraries statewide to introduce library staff to Reading Arizona. These roughly thirty minute presentations feature background on the project and a live tour of the Reading Arizona site, focusing on the ebooks and the BiblioBoard features.
By the end of February 2015 we’ve reached three library systems, including two of the largest systems in the state, Phoenix Public Library and Pima County Public Libraries. Feedback has been wonderful, and the questions have been very helpful for improving the platform. Librarians have been most interested in a widget for their website and promotional materials (bookmarks, rack cards, posters). Libraries have also expressed interest in incorporating MARC records into their catalogs.
